About us and how we verify notices
Kenya Obituaries is a place for Kenyan families to announce a death, share funeral arrangements and gather messages of comfort — and for friends to find that news quickly, wherever they are.
Why we exist
News of a death in Kenya travels through WhatsApp groups, church announcements and newspaper pages that are hard to find a week later. We give every notice one clear, permanent link: who has passed, when and where the service and burial will be, how to reach the family, and a wall where people can leave a message.
How we keep notices genuine
- Paid from a Kenyan M-Pesa number. Every notice is paid for, and the paying number stays on record with us. That alone stops most hoax posts.
- Family consent. The person posting confirms they are family, or have the family's permission, and that the details are true.
- Anyone can report. Every notice has a report link. When several different people report the same notice, it is hidden automatically until we review it — usually within 24 hours.
- Families stay in control. With their confirmation code and phone number, families can correct details, approve or hide photos and messages, or remove the notice entirely.
- Moderated messages. Messages containing links are held for review, and shared photos only appear after the family approves them.
Money and contributions
Families may list M-Pesa details for funeral contributions. We never collect contributions, and we remind mourners to confirm details with someone they know in the family before sending money.
