Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
Truly we belong to God, and truly to Him we shall return. (Qur'an 2:156) — said on hearing of a death.
Allahumma ighfir lahu warhamhu
O God, forgive him and have mercy on him. (Use "laha" and "ha" for a woman.)
May Allah grant him Jannah

A prayer of comfort
Lord, in this time of sorrow, hold this family close. Give them strength for each day, peace in the night and the comfort of beautiful memories. Receive our loved one into your eternal rest. Amen.
A prayer for the departed
Eternal God, we thank you for the life of [name], for the love given and received, and for every kindness shown. Grant [him/her] rest, and grant us the hope of meeting again. Amen.
A prayer at the graveside
Lord, as we lay [name] to rest, we commit [him/her] to your keeping. Dry our tears, heal our hearts and help us to live in a way that honours [his/her] memory. Amen.
